Pontiac Repair: Interior light troubles, interior lamps, rear doors


Question
I have a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am gt,when I turn on my car the interior lights come on like normal but do not dim to off, when I drive away the lights dim and go off, but when I apply brakes and stop they come back on, when I drive off they light go off  back on and when I brake. When I turn off the key they stay on till the auto timer turns them off after 10 or so minutes

now today as i was preparing to go to the mechaic they are workingnormal

this could be a tough problem to find. the fact that the eventually do time out leads me to belive it's not an issue withe the body control module and that one of the inputs to it is bad. One of the door ajar switches is probably. when this is acting up if this is a 4 door open the rear doors and remove the door jam switch it's on the pillar between the 2 hinges it's a little plastic switch sticking out. pull out the switch and un plug them and see in the lamps go out. If yes you found it. if not the front doors have to be isolated next but your have to take the door trim off to get to the front door switches they are part of the door latches. same thing if it's acting up unplug one at a time untill it's off. the last possibility is the trunk latch switch.. I think when the trunk is opened that lamp turns on as well as the rest of the interior lamps.. good luck :}
