Pontiac Repair: security system codes, factory security, pontiac grand am

Question
QUESTION: i havw 04 pontiac grand am . i disconnected battery terminal when reconnected horn blows continually and lights blink we took out fan relay to make horn stop blowing is there any way to override the security system to start the car everything in car works just will not let us start it

ANSWER: Hi Valerie:

Doe this car have an aftermarket alarm or a remote starter on it? That is more than likely what's going on not the factory security system. when you try to start it does the security lamp flash on the dash and it will not crank? or is it just a no crank situation? an aftermarket alarm will make it not crank. if the security lamp is flashing then there is a fault in the factory security system. It could be from an aftermaket remote starter tied into the wiring for the security system or just a fault of it's own. Without looking at the car I can't really tell you for sure what's going on but the factory stuff on that car when you reconnect the battery will not make it do what you said it doing. good luck :}

QUESTION: we do not notice a security light flashing on the dash anywhere but there is a blue light flashing under the dash so we are saying that is probably an aftermarket system the car does have a remote starter probably an aftermarket also do you know if we could disconnect this if that would let the car start  and if so how would we disconnect it thanks

Answer
I knew it! if you look under the dash somethere you will find a black box with a rats nest big ball of wiring that is the remote starter/alarm. some of them if you just unplug the alarm the cars will start some not. it depends on how it was taped into the car's wiring if it doesn't start then somewhere the "crank" wire is cut and this alarm is tied into it. that will hazva to be reconnected this is a job for an alarm installer or the dealer your choice. take a look at the name on the alarm module and let yout fingers to the walking through the phone books and see who handles that alarm system in your area or surf the web to find out. good luck :}
