Pontiac Repair: Starting, starter solenoid, purple wire

Question
I have a 1991 Grand Prix GT I just had a fuel line and a fuel pump replaced about a week ago and now the car is unable to start. I have checked the battery connections and it is fine with a full charge. The car will not turn over at all, it has gas in it. Do I need to buy a starter, have my fluids or fuses checked? What should I do?

Answer
Hi Patricia:

Well first off you ned to see if the starter motor is getting a "crank" signal to the starter solenoid. on the starter motor ther is a small gauge purple wire have someone crank the car while you check to see if there is battery voltage on that wire at the solenoid. You need a 12 volt test light to check this. If you do then it's a bad starter motor assembly. if not you have to trace it back to where you are loosing that "crank" signal it could be a bad park neutral switch or a bad ignition switch. good luck :)
