Pontiac Repair: 98 Pontiac Grand Prix wont start, pontiac grand prix, crank sensor

Question
My '98 automatic Pontiac Grand Prix (v6) won't start.  The battery is fine, no problems with connections.  When I put the key in, everything that's supposed to light up and ding, does, but when I turn it on, even before the point of turning it over, there's a weird noise, kind of like a humming sound, which stops after I finish turning the key, but it won't start or even turn over.  I hadn't been having any problems with starting it or with the starter prior to this.

Answer
Hi
Where does the humming come from, front or rear?
If rear it MAY just be the fuel pump running, the pump usually runs for approx. 2-5 seconds when key is turned to the run position. It will then shut off and wait for a signal from the computer to start running again, WHEN the computer recieves a cranking signal from the engines crank sensor.
If it DOES NOT spin at all, it may be that you have a faulty starter.
If the battery checks OK, and the wiring I would next look towards the starter.
Does the "security" or "theft" light come on and stay on or blink?
It MAY also be that you have a problem with the Passkey system.
I Hope this helps
