Pontiac Repair: Brake lights, pontiac grand am, body control module

Question
Good morning.  I have a 6 cylinder, 2004 Pontiac Grand Am.  Complete maintenance work was done in late August 2007.  I live in the far north, and it's been consistently -20 Celcius for weeks.  I noticed my brake light on this morning, put the parking brake on and off a few times, drove to work and it's still on.  Any ideas?  Thanks!

Answer
Hi
Is the Red Brake light the only light on?
If so the ONLY things which will turn it on are the park brake, brake fluid level being low in master cylinder, or a pressure difference IF equipped with abs.
USUALLY if equipped with ABS the ABS light will also come on for this concern.
The BCM (Body Control Module) controls the RBWL (Red Brake Warning Lamp).
If the park brake is not the culprit, I would HIGHLY suspect low brake fluid level in the master cylinder.
IF thsi is the case. I also would HIGHLY recommend having the brakes checked. Low fluid can be caused by worn front pads, worn rear soes, or a leak in the hydraulic system.
Please have it checked!!
I hope this helps
