Pontiac Repair: fuel delivery, electric fuel pump, pontiac trans am

Question
when i turn my key over on my 1986 pontiac trans am, the electric fuel pump begins ticking. and will not stop unless my foot is on the brake. fyi, just switched over from mechanical to electrical on the pump.

Answer
Hey  Darnell:

Well the noise from the pump may be normal I'm not sure. How did you wire it in? Is it hooked up to switched ignition voltage? I'm not really sure wht the noise changes when you have you foot on/off the brake pedal. I'm a bit confused as to just what the question actually is here.. Just an FYI for you having the pump running constantly with the key on is really not a good idea for a safety point of view. If the needel and seat were to stick open on the carburator on this car as long as the key is on it could concievably pump raw fuel into the engine which is not good. You should run the pump off a transducer from the oil pressure switchtwhat way the only time the pump will run is when the engine has some sort of oil pressure.
