Pontiac Repair: Speedometer not working, oil pressure gauge, pontiac sunfire

Question
I have a 2004 Pontiac Sunfire and the speedometer doesn't work properly. This started this morning. (I noticed it when I looked down and it said I was going 90mph and CLEARLY was not!) When I am stopped my speedometer now sits on 25mph. The tach, oil pressure gauge, etc. all work fine. What do you think is the problem, and approx. how much do you believe it shouldbe to fix?

Answer
Hi
It is the IP Cluster (the whole cluster unit).
Depending on your mileage it MAY be covered under warranty.
I would check with your local dealership, see if they will not maybe help on part or labor.
I would guess parts $$$ or around $275.00 - 350.00 USD.
LAbor is really dependent on your local labor rate. I would guess 1.5 hrs. labor at your local rate.
Unit will need to be programmed and mileage set.
Another option for you MAY be to (depending on your mileage) check with local Salvage yards or Ebay and see if you can find a used one, with approx. close mileage to yours.
It can then be taken and reprogrammed at dealership OR a repair shop with reprogramming capibilties.
I hope this helps
