Pontiac Repair: 2000 grand am gt key wont turn in the ignition, moving steering wheel, grand am gt


Question
I have had this car a year no problems then all of a sudden i putthe key in te igniton and it won't at all.  Tried moving steering wheel and pressing on the brake still nothing.

Yep that happens. You have 2 options either a lock smith or take it to a dealer. Either the tumbler are stuck in the cyclinder or the retainer that hold in the tumblers broke and it's not allowing the cylinder to turn. You can try this with the key in the ignition tap on the end of the key with someing small like the handle of a scre wdriver while trying to turn the key it that doesn't work you kindda stuck and you have to go either direction. To repait it basically the cylinder has to be drilled out of the ignition switch assembly. a hole is drilled through the side of the switch where the retainer spring is that hods the cylinder in. that spring has to be removed and then the cylinder can be taken out. This is not a job for the do it your selfer. sorry :(
