Pontiac Repair: Vats Passkey II Security System, vats passkey, pontiac grandprix

Question
I have a pontiac grandprix that won't crank over at all, my security light stays on. I have tryed 2 different keys, no luck. Is there a way to bypass the security system? Thank you.

Answer
Hi Mary:
yes there is if this is a older car you can the newer ones have paslock system and no you can't. as long as the key has the little balck chip in it you can. you need a ohm meter and measure the resistance of that pellet in the key have someone hold the key on the plastic part whil you measure the resiantce of the pellet it you touch it the resisnatce will be off. when you find that reading goto radio shack and but a resistor that is as close as possible to that reading and a higher wattage one as well. The guy at the shacks will know what I mean. Then under the steering column ther is a hush panel drop that down and ther will be the wiring going down through the column. look for 2 ver small little wite wires they look like phone wire. cut it back for the large connector that they go into on the steering column side of the harness and wire that resistor in between those 2 wires. use a soldering iron to mkae the connection so it doesn't wiggle loose. That should do you. good luck :)
