Pontiac Repair: Rear wheel hub, wheel hub, drum brakes

Question
I have a 2000 Montana with a 3.4l engine. I have been told that I need to replace my rear wheel hub. It is chattering whenever I drive it. I replaced my front one awhile back. Is the rear similiar? I have drum brakes in the back so I am wondering if there are any big differences. Thanks!

Answer
Hi John:
well the rear is actually easier if it comes out of the axle tube okay. If you live in the rust/salt belt like I do then it gets a bit difficult to get out of the axle tube. You don not have to take any of the brakes off you can remove the 4 bolts that hold it to the tube and then pull it out of the tube and the backing plate for the brakes. Just be VERY careful not to break the brake line off if you have to wrestle with it to get it out of the tube that is the hard part of the job. A little penetrating oil works wounders like liquid wrench or PB blaster to break the corrosion free. good luck :)
