Pontiac Repair: 2001 Pontiac Firebird, outer bearings, pontiac firebird

Question
QUESTION: In a 2001 Pontiac Firebird, 3.8, V-6. Auto Trans. After changing rear wheel bearing, what kind of oil goes back in?

ANSWER: Hey Andy.
It depends on what rear axle you have in that car they both take synthetic 75w-90 gear lube but if it has a limited slip rear diff it also needs a bottle of this Gm part # 1052358 it is a 4oz. bottle of additive it's a friction modifier for the limited slip unit. If it was a basic V6 firebird I doubt it hss limited slip if it was a special ordered car then it may have it.

QUESTION: What are the odds of the inner bearings going bad instead of the outer bearings, that would make a roaring noise?

Answer
Pretty good. The outter axle bearing hardly ever go bad on any of our cars I found it strange that you asked the question. Usually the pinion or case side bearings go bad. Also if that has a 2 piece driveshaft the center support bearing goes bad on the drive shaft but you said this had a 3800 V6 I think that support bearing was only on the 3.4 V6 the older 6 cylinder optuion.
