Pontiac Repair: 95 Grand Prix brake(?) problem, caliper piston, grand prix 3

Question
I just had a problem this evening with my 95 Grand Prix (3.1L V6 SFI OHV).  I believe it's a brake problem with the rear-left tire.  As I was driving home from work, I began to fishtail as I hit 25mph.  I pulled over and noticed a burnt rubber smell coming from that tire and the rim was warm to the touch (as compared to the other 3 tires which were cold).  I should also mention that this is the first cold-snap of the year, but yesterday was colder and the car functioned fine yesterday and going to lunch today.  Also, I always use the parking brake, but it was un-set when this occurred.

Answer
Hi John:

Yes it appears that is is a brake issue. either the caliper piston had bound up or the flider pins for that caliper have seized up keeping the brake partially applied or not releasing it fully when the pedal is lifted. The weather more than likely didn't have any direct affect on it. Cut you losses and just get a remanufactured caliper for it instead of screwing around trying to fix the one that the porblem is with. you may want to look at the other side as well if one side is bad chances are the other one is right behind it. Good luck :)
