Pontiac Repair: fuel relay and fuse, amp fuse, grand prix 3

Question
Our daughter has a 1992 Grand prix, 3.1 engine. It was running fine and then when she turned it off and a little while later tried to start it, it wouldn't. It is turning over. We have tracked it down to the 20 amp fuse in the fuse box under the hood. Have replaced it several times because it keeps blowing it. Replaced the fuel relay. After we replace the 20 amp fuse it starts right up, but you turn it off and it won't start again. Checked the fuse and its blown. Can you tell me a reason this might be happening and what we should check next. Is it possible the whole fuse box has gone bad? If that is the case wouldn't other things that have fuses in that box not be working? Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hi Gina:

More than likely it's a bad fuel pump when you try to start the car the pump is going bad and the extra amperage it takes to get the pump started is blowing the fuse. just double chek that there is no wires rubbed through or pinched back by the tank if not then replace the pump and also the fuel filter while you are there. Good luck :)
