Pontiac Repair: fluid maint....., power steering fluid, vague answers

Question
O4 sunfire 2.2L 5 spd manual 49K
This is my very 1st new car and I want it to last! I've change the oil every 2500 miles from the 1st one at 1k (was told to do the 1st change then due to bearing break-in).
I want to replace ALL the fluids at 50K? My wife against it, says a waste of money. I think dirty fluids can cause more problems later who's right?
I know how to bleed the brakes, flush the coolant, and manual trans are simple, but how can I drain and replace power steering fluid in the rack with out special equipment?

Answer
Hi
As much as I'd LOVE to answer and agree with both you and your wife, I can only tell you it's your car and you can do whatever, whenever you want.
I do not mean to sound impersonal.... but the BEST advice I can give you is to read the schedualed maintance intervals in the owners manual and base your decision on this.
Driving conditions, city, highway, dusty roads, mountians, etc... ALL play into factor.
Look at the fluids... how do they look?
It can get expensive...
The power steering fluid SHOULD be flushed TOTALLY with a machine.
I am sorry for the vague answers.
I hope this helps.
Good Luck
