Pontiac Repair: Automatic locks are acting up, pontiac montana, whole slew

Question
QUESTION: When I put the car in gear to drive sometimes it automatically locks/sometimes not. When I park and take the keys out sometimes it unlocks/sometimes not. Sometimes it will lock or unlock while driving. Now I can't get it to lock while inside the car. Only with my remote on my key ring. Any suggestions????

ANSWER: Hi Amy:

What model car is this? it could be a whole slew of things from a transmission park netutral switch to a door lock switch to a body control module or even an ignition switch. It's hard to say with out knowing what kind of car you have.

QUESTION: Sorry...I realized as soon as I sent it I didn't give you any info. I have a 2002 Pontiac Montana. Now sometimes when I use the remote to unlock the van it will lock back automatically. I have to hurry and open the door before it locks on me. What should I check? Should I take it in?

Answer
You may have an issue with the wiring for the door lock switches. The wiring under the carpet on the rigt side of the van get wate logged from a leak into the van that you never see because it's under the carpet and it basically corrodes the wiring for the locks that would explain why the switches inside do not work. As for them locking and unlocking by them self???? It could be a bad body control module.... Or the same problem with the wiring being rotted has caused the switch wiring to be shorted out causing the locking issue. It's something you should have looked at. Good luck :)
