Pontiac Repair: 1996 Grand Am GT, grand am gt, temp gauge

Question
Todd, I read your last response to the Grand Am Problem, and mine is similar. My car ran fine then the temp gauge shot up to max immediate, like a short. Turned the car off, restarted it and all gauges were off, tach, speed, temp, fuel, today the car will not get fuel. turns over but chokes out. fuses good I checked obvious, worried about computer. However I had the tumbler in the ignition changed 250 KMS ago, and am wondering if there could be a faulty installation issue.

Answer
Hi Darry:

If you had an ignition lock tumbler issue the key would not turn so that's not the case. You may have some kind of ignition switch issue that it's not powering up all the key on fuese "RUN" fueses. you have to be missing something and that's why it's not running check for fuel pressure and spark I'm sure your missing one of them. On the other had if it starts and stalls right out and the security lamp is on then you have a pass lock issue. Being that you had an IPC issue bfore this happned it could be some sort of an internal falure in the cluster or a loack of power going to the cluster. The IPC is the theft module on this car so if something is going wrong with it it will not stay running and the security lamp comes on. Hope that helps :)
