Pontiac Repair: 1998 pontiac grand prix gt 3800, pontiac grand prix, pontiac grand prix gt

Question
When I have been driving for awhile, my car will jerk for just a second and the service engine soon light comes on.  When I stop and start going again it has a really violent shaking when it switches into second gear and tries to go into thrid as soon as it can. what could cause this?

My BEST advice at this time would be to have you take it to either a National chain auto parts store (Autozone, Advance, NAPA etc..) OR a national Reapir chain (Meineke, Midas, Pepboys, etc..) and have the OBDII code read that is turning on the Service Engine Soon light. These places USUALLY offer this service FREE or for a VERY low rate.
This will point you in the right direction, so you dont spend excessive time and/or MONEY on trying to blindly repair this problem.
