Pontiac Repair: pontiac no start, starter solenoid, grand prix 3

Question
1998 grand prix 3.8 does not start ,no click from the starter, full battery, everything else works including anti- theft....i was thinking ignition switch or starter,is there a sure way to check....thanks

Answer
Hey dave:

Yes you can have someone crank the car over for you while you check the small purple wire at the starter solenoid for power while the key is in the crank position. If you have power there then it's a starter. If not you have to trace it backwards to the park neutral switch at the transmission it goes into the switch on the yellow wire and out to the starter on the purple wire. try that. Also try cranking it while the transmission is in the neutral position.  Good luck :)
