Pontiac Repair: Lights, pontiac sunfire, hood latch

Question
Hey Todd, I have a 1996 Pontiac Sunfire 2.4 Convertible 4 speed manual.  I have daylight running lights and a little lamp icon appears on the left side of my instrument panel when the running lights are on and it goes out when I turn the headlights on.  My problem is now when I turn my headlights on the lamp icon remains on and my headlights do not come on (the running lights remain on).  When I click the bright lights on the bright lights do come on and the lamp icon then goes out.  Any ideas what it could be--switch, bulbs??

Thanx

Doug

Answer
Hey Doug:

More than likely this has a forward lamp harness that hs corroded on you. This is a pretty common issue with this car. If you live in the rust belt it's really common. ther are 3 or 4 splices in that lamp harness that corrode and cause a variety of headlamp and DRL issues. I wouldn't even bothe trying to trace them down a few of them are behind the washer bottel in the harness and a couple of them are right in the middle on the harness behind the hood latch. I'd just look into getting the harness and replace it. If you adventurious then go a head and try to find them. Good luck :)
