Pontiac Repair: 00 Bonneville SSEi 3.8 SC Ignition Switch Replacement, bonneville ssei, oval hole

Question
I'm in the process of removing a non-functioning ignition switch from my 00 SSEi. I've got the wires lose, ignition switch free from obstacles.  Problem is pulling the park cable from beneath the car, through the oval hole in the cluster frame-the park cable housing is larger than the hole.  Does the end fitting near the cable come off without cutting the retaining nut on the end? Or, is there an angle that needs to be checked?

Second part; transferring my good key tumbler to the ignition switch--any issues or challenges related to this?

I presume that the key/PASS system will still relate to the PCM because it didn't change, only the ignition switch.

If you have any other thoughts, they would be very much appreciated.

Thanks!

Niels

Answer
Hi
GM SI says to just "Disconnect the shift/park lock cable from the ignition switch"
I think you have to have shifter in nuetral to ease in this step.
Nothing should need to be cut.
The theft should not, as you state need to be preprgrammed.
Everything should be straight forward just swapping parts.
The Ignition lock "tumbler" switch should be removed before park lock cable.
please I am sorry for delay.
I do hope this helps
Good luck
