Pontiac Repair: 1999 Pontiac Montana, strut mounts, pontiac montana

Question
The van started making a noise when the steering wheel was turned to the right.  Happened all of a sudden.  Does not sound like metal on metal, but more like a scrubbing of rubber or something like that.  Seems to come from the driver side of the car under the hood.  No noise at all when turning to the left and no hesitation or anything felt in the steering wheel itself.  Thanks for any suggestions.

Answer
Hey Rex:

Well noises are VERY hard to diagnose when you can actually hear them but just asking a general question makes it even harder but I'll try. if it sound like it coming from under the hood it could be a number of things. The upper strut mounts on those vans are prone to making noise. The stering gear could be the cause but that would more then likely do it in both directions. If this van has a lot of miles on it it could be a suspension issue there lower control bushings pull out of the arm in the front and they will make noise but more so over bumpy roads and there are stabalizer bar links on either side of this van and those links rust out and break off they make noise but over BIG bumps or in a sharp turn where the body leans a lot. Lastly how about a brake noise if it only does it when the van is moving then it could be the rotor rubbing on the pads when the weight for the van is shifted from side to side? Just a few ideas of things to look at. Hope that helps and good luck :)
