Hi, I have a 1996 2.4 Grand Am Prix, my husband changed the sparks yesterday, and everything was good but this morning the car was spitting and has a white smoke from the tail muffler.  Please help!!!! this car is a mess from last year I spent over 800.00 on repairs!!!  Thanks for your time.  Check Engine light on also.  Ana

Answer
Hey Ana:

It's hard to say what the issue is... It's a bit vaugue on the question. The white smoke could be fuel that's not being burned in the engine or it could be coolant that's leaking into the engine causing it to run bad when it's cold and the coolant has leaked back inside the cylinders. Does the white smoke have a sweet smell or a fuel smell. Sweet smell is coolant burning and gas smell means the engine isn't running the fuel. When it's running poorly check for spark then at least it would rule that out. The service engine light on is because it's misfiring. Hope that helps some. Good luck.
