when i put my key in the ignition i can not get it to turn forward the steering is locked and so is the key. it is as if i have a key to another car but the key will unlock the doors. how do i fix this problem

I would try your spare key, if avalible. If not, take your title, proof of insurance and registration to your local GM dealership and have a key cut from the VIN. (you'll need to document ownership).
That fixes about 75% of them.
If that does not work, You'll need to replace the ignition lock assy.
