Pontiac Repair: pontiac, throttle cables, light tomorrow

Question
Hey its jake with the grand prix again.  It says I have too many follow ups. Go figure.  I tried looking for the wire to the ignition module but i cant find it.  I'll look again during day light tomorrow.

also, i dont really know what/where the throttle body is. Is it on top of engine?

as for scan tools, i thought they only work if you have service engine lights on.....i haven't had the light come on...or at least yet...dont know if thats good or bad...

but as far as my problem goes....if the engine was cracked or something could that do that???

Also,  what about the EGR valve...could that do that...

Im taking to a mechanic that is a gm mech...on tuesday..he had his own shop at home...hopefully it''ll be a lot cheaper than the dealer....thanks todd

Answer
I didn't know they had a limit to the questions. Go figure on that as well. The throttle body is where the throttle cables are attached to the engine the hose from the air cleaner attaches to it as well. The MAF sensor is right on top. It has 3 wires maybe pink, yellow and black???? wiggle that connector up and down with the engine running and see it it makes it act up. As for a crack I don't know what your talking about.... As for the EGR No it will not make a cars start and stall it would have been running poorly when you shut it off for it to run crappy on a hot start. So therefor it would have been running with it stuck open before you shut the car off. The valves do stick from time to time but they will turn on a service light. On this car and most new ones they are electrically commanded on. lastly as for the scan tools there are many different types some just scan for codes and some scan for codes and also read the data for the engine computer. It all depends on what the person has. Just because the light hasn't come on doesn't mean it hasn't set an codes in the computers memory... Good Luck....
