Pontiac Repair: 92 pontiac grand am, heater hoses, temp gauge

Question
i just put a new motor in and was told my cooling system is airlocked was wondering how to unlock it.

Answer
Hey Chad.

Yes this happens to all of the newer cars the radiaotr is lower than the engine thus the air gets trpped inside the engine and in the heater core. It depends on what engine you have as to where the hoses are. If it a 3300 V6 then the heater hoses are on the front of the engine take off upper hose and fill the radiator surge tank slowly untill the air and water come out of both the hose and the pipe on the engine. If it's a 2.3/2.4 liter 4 cylinder then take the upper hose of at the rear of the engine and do the same thing. put the hose back on and run the engine and keep an eye on the temp gauge. that should do it for you the 4 cylinder is harder to burp! Good luck.
