Pontiac Repair: 1990 grand prix wont start, fuel pressure regulator, upper intake manifold

Question
I have a 1990 Pontiac grand prix Le with the 3.1L it all started with running rough, jumpy idle and now i have fuel pouring from behind the butterfly valve in the throttle body. i was told it was the fuel pressure regulator. the car wont start anymore. is there any possibilities it is something else?
thank you

Answer
Hey Wes:

I would have to agree.. It's more than likely that. The Diaphragm in the regulator must have ruptured. It must have been a slow leak at first causing the rough Idle then it really went bad causing that much fuel to back up into the upper intake manifold. You can pop the hose off the regulator and turn the key to run if gas is spitting out of the port on top of the regulator than that's the problem. It's pretty easy to change you just have to take off the upper intake to gain access to the fuel rail to change the regulator. You will have to pull out all of the plugs and clean them after you fix the regulator. They have to be fuel soaked! Good luck :)
