Pontiac Repair: 97 pontiac grandam 2.4l, pontiac grandam, dielectric grease

Question
hi, the problem im having is that it has a multiple random misfire, i already change both coil pack, sparkplugs and don't know what else to do. thankyou

Answer
Hey Ramon.
That is a pretty common problem with that engine especially it has higher milage. If you have a scan tool and can actually look at what cylinders are misfiring if the paired cylinder are misfiring at the same amount EG 1/4 and 2/3 then I would suspect that the IDC cover is bad. the coils cross fire inside that cover. The IDC cover is the plastic housing that the coils sit it. I assume that it was the same after you changed the coils. If it's worse now than I have seen people forget to put the springs in under the coils. When you change it out It's a dealer only part I belive. Make sure use use the dielectric grease that's inside the box a dab on each end of the springs before you install them. Hopefully that will help you out. If not then you may have a engine mechanical issue if that engines cam timing is out it will run bad as well. If you had a water pump changed on it that is usually the root of the timing being out or the top chain guide inside the timining cover may have broken. Hope that helps you out :)
