Pontiac Repair: 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix GT 3.8L Idol - Stall - Engine Light...., pontiac grand prix, pontiac grand prix gt

Question
2000 Pontiac Grand Prix GT 3.8L

The car had not been driven in 4 days and had no previous problems or warnings to potential problems.  After driving it casually for a short period, i noticed that the car was jittery and hesitated on acceleration.  The RPM's while driving and idiling would go up and down for no reason.  When i took the car home, the Engine light turned on.  I made sure i checked all the trouble shooting repairs and the car passed.  The Tranny Fluid was fine, same with the oil.  New AirFilter, Spark Plugs, And Wires.  I was told possibly could be the Fuel Filter.

Please help me in figuring this out, rather then paying an arm and a leg for diagnosing the problem.  Thank you.

Regards

Mitch

Answer
Hi
I would FIRST get the engine light scanned. Most major chain shops (Meineke, Midas, Pepboys, etc..) offer this as a free service.
Also MOST auto parts stores national chains ( auto zone, advanced, NAPA, etc...) also offer the same.
This will save SOME $$$$$.
If the Fuel filter has NOT been replaced, or you cannot remember, it's time to change it.
If that DOES NOT help, depening on the code, it MAY be a bad catalytic converter.
These would be my 2 guesses, without knowing the code.
I hope this helps.
Please follow back post, if needed.
Good Luck
