Pontiac Repair: 98 sunfire gt, theft deterrent system, sunfire gt

I just bought a 98 sunfire gt with a blown 2.4 motor,i replaced the motor with a 2.4l out of a 99 grand am.When i turn the key ahead i have no warning lights at all,gas gauge doesn't work and car will start for 2 secs then shut off,all wires in the engine compartment are hooked up checked all fuses,not sure what to do on this one

I would not think the motor R&R is causing any of your problems.
Really sounds like your cluster is at fault, for the start/stall problem.
That is sure fire signs of the VTD (Vehicle Theft Deterrent) system. Observe the "security" light.... it SHOULD come on for a bulb check (3-7 seconds) then go out.
If it comes on and stays on, or blinks, it is in VTD Lock mode.
If NONE of the dash lights come on, I would also suspect the IPCluster. The cluster in these cars ALSO contains the BCM (Body Control Module).
I would suspect teh IPC at this early point. Check fuses, check power and grounds to the IPC.
If all check out, replace the IPC.
