Pontiac Repair: 2000 Montana van has high revs, manifold gaskets, throttle linkage

Question
I have a 2000 Montana, ext version.  Lately when I start up and move into drive, my revs stay at about 1500, they will keep my van moving at about 70 K's per hour, too fast and the brakes work to hard to keep it from bursting forward at a stop light.  When I put the van into part the revs boost up to about 3000.  Sometimes if I stop the van, turn it off and then start it again the rev's will become normal.  What's up?  Haven''t noticed anything else in the running except it stalled on me once just the other day when the revs just dropped and died.

Answer
Hi
I would check for a vacuum leak. That REALLY sounds like what it is to me. If none are easily identified, have a good shop check the Lower intake manifold gaskets for leaking. They will leak vacuum inside the engine.
Other items, check the throttle linkage for free movement. no binding. Check the throttle body for also, free movement.
If these items check, have them hook it up to a scan computer and see if there are any IAC (Idle Air Controller) codes. The IAC should also move with the commands of a scan tool smooth. Have them check the IAC, there are service procedures to do this with the aid of a scanner and noid light.
I Hope this helps.
Just advice from experience.
Good Luck
