Pontiac Repair: serv. eng soon light -, 3800 series ii, new tank

Question
I have a 2002 bonneville sle 3800 series II.  I noticed my service engine light on steady, also upon heavy acceleration the engine misses, falls on its face but does not quit.   I added seafoam, seemed to run better, the hesitation stopped and eventually the light went out.  It reappear within days and now the hesitation is back.  I thought it may have been a tank of bad gas so I ran it down and refilled again, with this new tank it is happening again, I put another quart of seafoam and its running ok for now.  light is still on at this time.  What should I do next?

Answer
Hi
FIRST thing I would say to do is to take vehicle to a nationwide repair shop (meineke, pepboys, firestone, etc..) OR to a nationwide parts store(autozone, advacned, napa) and have the computer scanned and get the code read, so you'll have an idea of what the problem MAY be. Most offer this service for free and it does not take too long.
Then, not knowing your mileage or maintance history, and depending on the code,  I would first consider a major tune up (plugs, wires, fuel filter, air filter, injector flush, induction cleaning).
These items NEVER hurt, and I almost ALWAYS recommend them as I am the world worst about forgetting to do my maintance.
If the light ever blinks, it needs to be addressed QUICKLY as that is a catalyst damaging issue.
To me it sounds like you MAY, ahve a catalytic converter issue.
Again, I would have the computer scanned and go from there. If you want to follow up post to me, feel free to do so.
I Hope this helps.
JUST advice from experience.
Good Luck
