Pontiac Repair: sorry wrong ?, blown head gasket, cap water

sorry bout that i sent you a ? about a sebring, i thought i was on chrysler repair. i also have a 95 grand am 2.3l quad 4 ( this is waht i wanted to ask you), the rods on it are knocking, my stepdad said he could fix it but he doesnt want to pull the engine, now ive talked to a guy about different ways of going about this problems and he said he THINKS i could drop the engine pan ect and replace them that way. would u suggest this and could it even be done this way. oo and my it overheats constantly, replaced thermostat, radiator, rad. cap, water hose and still has
problem, would u suggest a new fan in the car to cool the radiator off, thanks soo much for your time, and srry again for the wrong ? the first time. thanks josh

The crank can be removed from the bottom, but the transmission HAS to come out NO QUESTION ABOUT THAT.
Personally, I would rather pull the engine, and do it all on a stand or table, other than fighting it overhead, but thats your call.
You also may want to have the overheating checked out and make sure it is not like a blown head gasket or something mechanical.
As far as ofans, if the fans are not coming on I would attempt to fix that problem rather than hotwiring or putting non factory fans instead of.
There again, that is just personal preference. It may just be something simple not allowing the fans to come on.
