Pontiac Repair: Brake problem?, wheel hub, pontiac grand am

Question
Hi there we have a 2004 pontiac grand am se v6 automatic.  for about a month or so we have heard a noise in the front end.  I thought it was the tires.  The car has 128000 k's and we got the car with about 40000 k's.  when the car starts it sounds fine.  when we start to drive we hear a noise.  I had a 91 sunbird that made a noise when the pads were going.  do you think the pads are going?  somebody said we would hear a metal scraping sound(not grinding)  if the pads were going.  when we slow down the sound dies down,  I thought at first it was the motor but I put it in nutreal and reved while driving and I heard the motor rev and the other sound did not change.  hope you can help

Answer
Hi
Is it a roaring noise?
IF SO, I would suspect a wheel hub/bearing.
Does it change or quiet down if you turn the wheel to one side or the other?
From what you saying it REALLY sounds like one of the front hub bearings.
Not a hard fix and you SHOULD be able to get aftermarket parts.
Again, If in doubt, please take it to a local shop or mechanic, and MOST will at least drive and listen to it with you and give you an estimate, usually no charge or a very minimal charge.
Hope this helps
Good luck
