Pontiac Repair: 1999 Grand Am fueling issue, reid vapor pressure, vent valve

Question
I am unable to get my 1999 grandam gt to accept fuel. I was at the gas station attempting to fill my car, the gas would go down the neck of the car and then shoot back out?
I only had 1/4 tank of gas and that is verified by the gauge as well as i know i had driver a about 200 miles since my last refueling. The nozzle was inserting correctly into the fuel neck so that was not the issue.

Answer
Hi
there are a few things it can be
1)Valve stuck open
2)Valve stuck closed
3)Valve leaking
4)High reid vapor pressure or high fuel temperature

OK the Valve they are referring to is the
Fuel fill limiter valve. It is located inside and ON top of the fuel tank. The tank HAS to be removed for service.
You MAY want to have the computer scanned for codes, just to verify the EVAP system is not at fault also.
The EVAP vent valve is normally OPEN so make sure if you have it checked, the vent valve is open.
Other than that I believe your problem will be the Fill limiter valve.
It IS a replacable part.... a special tool is needed for removal and reinstalling part.
Also as stated, the tank MUST be dropped for this parts replacement.
I hope this helps.
JUST advice from experience.
Good Luck
