Pontiac Repair: 2002 grand am security and service engine, keyless entry system, dtcs

Question
My husband borrowed my car, a 2002 grand am gt, v6,auto.  He used a key made at the hardware store.( I'm not sure if it matters)  There is a factory installed keyless entry system with a security alarm.  He drove the car 15 miles, stopped, turned off the car, then it would not start again.  The security light started flashing and the check engine light came on.  I tried the dealers key that came with the car and nothing.....it doesn't turn over click or say boo.  All the lights come on, he tried having it jumped, and disconnected and reconnected the battery, still nothing.....any thoughts?

Answer
Tools Required:
None

Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
Attempt to start the engine, then release the key to ON (vehicle will not start).
Observe the SECURITY telltale, after approximately 10 minutes the telltale will turn OFF.
Turn OFF the ignition, and wait 5 seconds.
The vehicle is now ready to relearn the Passlock™ Sensor Data Code and/or passwords on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK.

Important
The vehicle learns the Passlock™ Sensor Data Code and/or password on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK. You must turn the ignition OFF before attempting to start the vehicle.

Start the engine. The vehicle has now learned the Passlock™ Sensor Data Code and/or password.
With a scan tool, clear any DTCs if needed. History DTCs will self clear after 100 ignition cycles.
