Pontiac Repair: 2001 sunfire gt idle, engine sensors, engine temp

Hi I have a 2001 sunfire gt and the car is idling around 1500 rpms and the temp is rising as well,it started as I was leaving the gas station after filling up , is it my water pump going that might cause my car to idle high and heat up past 100 degrees

i suspect a vacume leak  or some other sort or failed part , simply by your information of a high idle and engine temp raising isnt alot to go with but you might try making sure there is enough anti freeze in the rad and overflow tank, if there is not enought the engine sensors will think the motor is cold and there fore raise the idle to warm it up , again i dont have much to go off of
