Pontiac Repair: 96 Greand Am, noid light, instrument cluster

QUESTION: Hello, I have a 96 Grand Am and will start and run for 3 or 4 seconds and it dies..I checked the fuel injectors with a noid light and after the 3 seconds the noid light quites flashing the theif system is shutting it down... now I have replaced the ecm with no help ..I replaced the speedometer no help ..I got a code p1601 instrument cluster fault that is where I am told the heart of the theif conrol is ..still no help .I know it has a magnet on the ignition switch and uses the hall affect but I don't know how to check this ..you got any ideas ??? how about just by passing the system????  thanks Greg any help will be appericated

ANSWER: ok well first off try a different key, your might have the theft controller in the key , the bcm is usually what controlls the theft system  (body controll module) if so equipt. if the theft light is on  tyr this ... put your key in the ignition turn it to on and leave it on for fifteen minutes then try to start and see if it will reread the key, of coarse check all fuses first , you may have 2 fuse locations , check ownbers manual for them,

QUESTION: I TRIED TO LEAVE THE KEY ON FOR 15 MINUTES AND SWITCHED IT OFF BUT STILL THE SAME THING ...DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW TO JUST BY PASS THIS SYSTEM??? I AM TIRED OF SPEENDING MONEY ON PARTS AND WORK AND GET THE SAME RESULTS GREG

i am sorry it is a security device, i am sure that given enought time and reading the wiring diagram it could prob be done , but i iabev never by passed one, sorry it is a common failure that i know gm is aware of and they might have a recall notice for you year check with the dealer  sorry
