Pontiac Repair: 2.3 quad 4 cam timing, alingment, manula

I am working on my 95 Grand Am it has the 2.3 quad 4 and I was wondering how to alighn the cams, are both dots (or holes) supposed to be straight up? Also, this engine had a horrible rattle ever since I bought it. Now yesterday it jumped time. Are these engines known for alot of noise? and Y? Thanks

ok well instead of me trying to talm you through alingment of the cams  (they require dowelss on the alinment holes)i suugest if you are going to attempt this  go to your local auto store or get on ebay and buy a chilton manula for your car, it will save you the headche of messing it up, its not hard to do but its always better with pictures yes they can rattle and make noise when the tensioners are failing
