Pontiac Repair: fuel pump, quiet one, fuel pump

hi,i have a high pitched whirring noise coming from my fuel pump in my 1997 grand am 2.4 liter, i know theres suppose to be a whirring noise coming from it when its working but this noise seems to be a bit louder then normal and its very annoying, could it mean my pump is on the way out? hope you can help...thanks

It sounds like the fuel pump. When was the last time you replaced fuel filter?
Sometimes that'll help "quiet" one down a bit.
I understand the annoyance. I've seen noisy pumps go on for years. I've seen noisy pump also go out quick.
I've also seen quite pumps do the same. So annoyance, yes.
Is it on the way out? I cannot tell you that. Wish I could.
If it is a bother and you got the money to replace it.....Thats your call.
