Pontiac Repair: 92 bonny 3.8 sc crank no start, key cylinder, noid light

Question
I just aquired a 92 bonny and it cranks but no start there is no spark and when I
pull codes manually it gives me 12 and 58 I don't know what they mean or
where to start I have a good signal from the crank sensor and replaced the cam
sensor. and now I hope some one can help.

Answer
Hi Clint
Is the "Theft" light on or blinking?
If so I beleiv this MAY be your problem. Code 58 is the Theft deterrent code. USUALLY the theft deterrent disables fuel. But as it all runs through the Ignition Control Module, it MAY disable fire. If possible, see if you have injector pulse using a Noid light. IF NOT, I would suspect the Ignition KEY switch. It has 2 very hair like wires that run from the key cylinder to the VTD(Vehicle Theft Deterrent) Module. There is a small connector under dash close to steering column when replacing key cylinder. The wires are both white, but they are shrink wrapped in an orange casing.
These wires are known to break very close to the key cylinder itself from the constant rotation they endure.
I would go this route first, seeing as these are the only codes thus far.
There is really no way to check the Ignition control module, except by replacement. That would be my only other guess, unless data would say otherwise.
FYI Code 12 is just a system check code and has no relavance, unless it does not flash.
I really hope this helps.
This is JUST advice from experience.
Good Luck
Paul
