Pontiac Repair: 1994 Potiac Firebird Formula V8 (automatic), fuel pressure regulator, catalytic convertors

Question
we have recently changed the transmission screen, and fluid, and the fuel pump relay switch. i think it was last summer that we changed the fuel filter. sometimes the car acts like it doesnt want to start. and when it does, it soulds ok, but it gets a little loud, and shakes a little, then shuts off. (sometimes) but when you try to go somewhere, it takes a long time to go into gear, and when you stop at a light or stop sign, it does it all over again. what could be wrong with my car?

Answer
Hi
Check the Fuel Pressure Regulator, make sure there is NO FUEL in the vacuum line.
Have your local mechanic check fuel pressure, make sure there is proper fuel pressure.
Check your air filter, make sure there is nothing (like a plastic bag or paper) "sucking up" and blocking air. I have seen this on the Camaro/Firebirds, due to the location of the air intake.
I would also consider a major tune up, including Spark Plugs, wires, fuel filter, air filter, throttle body clean and fuel injector cleaning.
Also you may want to take it to an Exhaust shop and have them check the Catalytic Convertors, if the other above items do not solve problems.
Just Advise from experience.
Good Luck
