Pontiac Repair: panel lights on when shouldnt be, powertrain control, abs service

Question
Hi I have a 2004 Pontaic Sunfire 4 speed automatic which has low mileage (6000 and a few miles).  I bought it about 6 month ago when it had 4000 miles.  Recently the ABS, Service Light and anti-traction light have come on after I back out of my parking spot and put the brake on to shift to a forward gear.  These lights stay on as long as the car is running.  I can sometimes stop it from happening by turning the engine off and restarting the car.  This doesn't work all the time.  The manual says this issue could be related to the parking brake not being all the way off.  I don't think so as I make sure it is all the way down and I don't use it that often.  I think it might be related to the foot brake.  I had a service recently @ 6000 miles.
What do you think could be the cause and solution.  Would this type of problem be covered by warranty, I still have about a month left on the original warranty.

Thanks for your help.

Answer
Hi
As long as your still in warranty time wise (3 years) it SHOULD be covered under the 3year 36000 mile manufacturer warranty.
IF not, it sounds like a Powertrain control  problem (not an ABS problem) as the ABS cannot turn on the Service engine soon light but the Service engine soon light CAN disable the ABS system.
Either way if it NOT covered under warranty, take it to a local repair shop, and have them preform an Engine Diagnostic check with a Scan Tool. Should reveal code(s) that is causing your problem(s).
Good Luck
