Pontiac Repair: 99 grand prix evaporator core, evaporator core, refrigerant

Question
My ac is not working at all.  I had it charged up a few weeks ago and it was fine for a day or so.  But now its blowing out hot air.  The mechanic said my dryer may be bad. I was wondering if i had to remove the dash on this model car to replace the evaporator?  Im guessing that is what he is calling the dryer.  And will i be in for a rough replacement?

Answer
sounds like you just have a leak.you can purchase a can of refrigerant from the parts store that contains stop leak.you can also purchase a recharge kit that allows you to charge the system yourself instructions included.if this does not stop the leak you will have to take and have it repaired by a mechanic.it may be a hole in the line or a seal leaking on one of the hoses.the dryer is located either on the firewall where the lines come into the cab or next to the radiator condensor assembly.the evaporator is located under the dash but should be fine unless it is leaking.if it was leaking you would know quick cause the cab will fill with some killer fumes.a good quality parts store should be able to assist you in getting all you need to do the job yourself.saving time and money
