Pontiac Repair: replaceing cv joint 01 Montana, cv joint, control arm

Question
I am replacing the pass. side cv joint. I have removed the the bearing and all brake parts. I can't push the shaft back to clear the bearing housing. Do you have to turn the wheel to a certain spot or do I have to remove the bearing housing that look like a lot of work. Thanks

Answer
I hate to tell you this Joe, but you are trying to take out the axle the wrong way. In order to remove the axle you do not need to remove the bearing at all, taking off the brakes isn't necessary either. You need to undo the pinch bolt or nut that holds the lower ball joint to the control arm and then pry the lower control arm down so that you have the needed play to push the axle out of the spindle and then pull it out of the transmission. When you pull it out of the tranny it will leak some atf so when you are done be sure to top it back off. Hope this helps and good luck :)
