Pontiac Repair: 94 Grand Prix sudden no start, sound water, fuel economy

Question
We were diagnosing the squealing sound (water pump bearings) in my son's 94 Pont Grand Prix SE V-6 and he left it running to quickly get ready for work but the sound got louder so he went out and turned the car off (he reached through the window while standing outside the door).
About ten minutes later he went out to start it and 'nothing', zilch, nada. The starter doesn't even try to click, and the hood light just barely dims. The radio and the digital fuel economy panel go completely out when trying to start, though.

The battery seemed to have power but we jumped it anyway, charged it for about 15 minutes...still didn't make a difference. We tried putting it in Neutral, connecting the seat belt, putting our foot on the brake, tapping on the starter, checking the starter wires (they're tightly connected), wiggling the harnesses above and below going to the starter and the battery...nothing helped.

He has never had any trouble starting it before and has had it for about 4 months (he just about lives in it).

Any ideas?

Answer
i would charge the battery full and do a load test on the battery.there may be something locked up not allowing the engine to turn.i would try removing the belt and see if it will crank.if not i would get the starter tested.sometimes an old starter gets weak and wont crank well on a fully charged battery.while the belt is off i would check all accesories for free turning operation<water pump, alternator, etc.>
