Pontiac Repair: Front wheel bearing, torx bolts, brake caliper

Question
I own a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am, 4 cylinder. The front left wheel bearing needs to be replaced, along with a speed sensor. Could you tell me how to go about doing this in lay-mens terms?

Answer
I can tell you how it is replaced Mike but it is probably best done by someone with experience and the correct tools because there are a couple of things needed that aren't in your common tool set. The front bearing assembly is bolted into the front spindle, the piece the runs up/down right behind the tire between the lower control arm and the strut. First step is to jack up the car securely and remove the tire and unbolt the brake caliper and hang it off to the side using a string, wire, etc. to hold it up. Then you would have to get the axle nut off, this is a 36mm nut threaded on in the middle of where the tire bolts on. Next there are three bolts that hold the bearing into the spindle which are either torx bolts right in front or are regular bolts (14mm i believe) that come in from the back side, the side the axle comes into the bearing from. Last is to unplug the ABS sensor and remove the assembly, this is usually kinda hard as it has been in there for a while. Reinstallation is reversal of the above with everything being properly toqued. Hope this helps and good luck :)
