Pontiac Repair: Timing??, pontiac sunbird, 1990 pontiac sunbird

Question
I have a 1990 pontiac sunbird GT Turbo. I just put all new spark plugs, spark plug wires, and a distributor cap. Right now i have no muffler or cat on the vehicle since i can only get it on the lift next week at school.  The problem is it is really slow on acceleration and has the occasional miss at lower rpms. I played around with the timing a little bit but still can't get it right.  It also sounds like a truck with straight pipes or like a harley and i really dont think thats from the exhaust because sometimes it sounds just fine like when your cruising it just has that rap during acceleration. i hope that helps you figure it out. Thanks for the help in advance

Answer
Hi,Justin

Check the fuel injectors, make sure they are ok,also check fuel pressure, fuel pressure with eng off is 35-38psi,also check the ign coil.without eng data im just taking a guess as to what is causing this,it sounds like the engine is running lean, that can lead to a fuel pressure problem or injectors.
