Pontiac Repair: 2001 Pontiac Grand Am SE-1, turn signal flasher, gm parts

Question
Signal flasher clicks randomly & rapidly when turn signal is not in use. Need help in locating the flasher. It seems to be somewhere behind the radio/CD player unit. How do I access this area? Also in the same area, heater fan switch does not operate on the #1 and #2 settings. Again, can't figure out how to get at it.
Thanks,
Bill

Answer
HI,Bill

The turn signal flasher and the hazard flasher are both integrated in to the hazard warning switch on the dash, this is acually called a Hazard Warning module, there is a GM bulliten for this,it is acually a recall for the complaint your having, the GM bulliten # is 03043A and the dealership will replace the Hazard Warning switch module at no charge to you,GM knows about the failing switch and that is why they issued the recall on them,so i suggest you bring that car into the dealership so they can replace it at no charge parts and labor, bring the campaign number that i gave you that way theres no guesswork.oh and it only takes about 10 min to replace :).
On your heating blower mtr problem, this sounds like a blower mtr resistor has failed, ive seen many of these fail causing your same concern, the resistor is mounted under the right side of dash near the motor itself, acually mounted in front of,you'll see 4-5 thick wires and a plug. The resistor can be removed with the 2 screws that hold it in place at the blower mtr box, cant miss it,once you get the under panel down it'll be right in front of you, also when there inspect those wires and plug{connector} that go to the resistor module,if burned or melted, you need to replace the connector, there is a connector kit and GM parts can get that for you along with the resistor module.I Bet they even have it stock :)
