Pontiac Repair: 2003 Grand Prix Blower Motor, blower motor resistor, voltage resistance

Question
My father has a 2003 Grand Prix w/ 3.8 V6, A/C with an aftermarket remote start (not sure if it matters, but thought I'd mention it). Well the blower motor has a 5 speed switch that no longer works on settings 1 or 2, but work fine on 3,4,& 5. What are the odds that it relates to the blower itself? I'm seeing info, Online that relates to a blower motor resistor for this year Grand Prix & I'm not farmiliar with it's specific purpose. How can I tell what the problem with the blower is, without getting charged an arm & a leg. Voltage, resistance?Help

Answer
Hi, what the resistor does is control the voltage to the motor, to kept the motor from getting to hot, this will go back to the switch, not putting the power to the motor on the low setting. or the motor is going bad and it taking  more to power to turn it, check the voltage at the motor, if have voltage at the motor on the low setting, then it's the motor, if there is no voltage at the motor then it's the switch.
