Pontiac Repair: 93 Pontiac GrandAm Air Conditioner, pontiac grandam, voltmeter

Question
When I use the airconditioner or defrost My voltmeter drops about 4 volts. I can usually maintain voltage with blower only and headlights on w/o the air. Is this the clutch drawing too much current? The cold air works fine otherwise.

Answer
Hi, it could be in the compressure, a bearing could be trying to go out, and making it hard to turn. it also could be, that the alternator is not be putting out what it should. check and make sure that you are getting 13 to 14 volts, with the engine running, with the a/c off, now turn the a/c on then check the volts if drops below 12 volts,  checked the comperssure, you can do this by taking the belt off, and turning the comperssure with your hand, if it's turns freely, then have the alternator checked.
